The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the thirteen American colonies, held in Philadelphia in 1774, in response to the British Parliament's enactment of the Coercive Acts. The Congress debated the colonies' response to British aggression, ultimately deciding to enact economic sanctions against Britain and to convene again if their grievances were not addressed.
