14 dic 1914 año - Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa ride to Zócalo, carrying banners of the Virgin of Guadalupe

Descripción:

During the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), revolutionary Emiliano Zapata led a peasant army against the government of Francisco Madero. Zapata’s rebel forces fought against increasing repression from the government which disproportionately affected farmers and peasants. In 1912, Zapata rode to Mexico City, carrying banners of the Virgin of Guadalupe, further cementing the Virgin’s iconography as a symbol of independence and protest against repressive governments. The Virgin was, to the Mexican people, a sign of national strength and resilience, as well as devotion to her.
