Operation barbarossa, also known as Operation Fritz ,
Is the invasion of the Soviet Union by Germany on June 22, 1941.

Hitler viewed the soviet union as his enemy and he attacked them with 3 million soldiers thinking he’s well prepared.

The invasion took the Soviet Union completely by surprise and caught the Red Army in an unprepared and partially demobilized state.

However, Germany lacked the resources necessary to fight the Soviet Union for an extended period of time, which is why Barbarossa failed.
