Johnny Depp has long tried to fashion himself as America’s beloved outre film artist, with his idiosyncratic career choices, rocker aspirations, Hunter S. Thompson worship, greasy-looking hair, and reported free-wheeling use of substances.
As if that’s not all cliché enough, the 55-year-old Depp has come to embody a related cliché: the aging male movie star undergoing a midlife crisis.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star long ago parted ways with Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his young adult children, Lily-Rose and Jack. He is still is engaged in messy post-divorce legal drama with Amber Heard, who is more than 20 years his junior. Depp continues to wage defamation suits related to Heard’s allegations that he was controlling, jealous and abusive during their marriage, especially after he had ingested too many substances.
In the past year, Depp has found comfort in the arms of an even younger partner, the Daily Mail has reported. Polina Glen is a 23-year-old go-go dancer and choreographer from Russia who likes to post steamy photos and dance videos of herself on Instagram.
Depp is pretty besotted and has already moved Glen into his Sunset Boulevard mansion, a friend of Glen’s told the Daily Mail.
“He’s got legal issues with his ex-wife and then here’s this beautiful young Russian dancer, that doesn’t want anything and doesn’t even know who he is,” the friend told the Daily Mail.
“Other women in his life are tearing him apart and it has been very easy for him to fall in love with her,” the friend added. “She’s not looking for anything from him. She’s real. She’s young. When you’re 55 and you meet a 20-something, there’s no drama. It’s fresh. You’re completely head over heels.”
The friend also insisted to the Daily Mail that Glen is “very down to earth” and not a gold digger. “I think that’s why he loves her so much because she’s not the L.A. crowd, she’s not looking for money,” the source said.
It’s hard to believe that Glen wouldn’t have known who Depp was, given that they met after the St. Petersburg native moved to the United States two years ago to further her career in show business, according to another Daily Mail report. Glen’s friend also told the Daily Mail that she had been getting “invited to a lot of stuff,” including the party in Los Angeles where she and Depp met.
Then again, prior to her move, Glen’s professional world consisted of working as a “bar top dancer” at a St. Petersburg nightclub when she was as young as 17, the Daily Mail also reported. Glen also may belong to a generation of teens and young adults who seek fame these days via social media and who may have little knowledge of older stars who become rich and famous in more traditional ways — like starring in blockbuster movies.
In any case, Glen’s friend told the Daily Mail that she caught Depp’s eye at the party. “She’s a dancer and a hot girl,” the friend said.
Glen was the “mystery women” photographed with Depp at a hotel in Belgrade, Serbia, in February, the Daily Mail reported. But Glen also was by his side in May 2018, when he was on tour in Moscow with his band, The Hollywood Vampires.
That’s around the same time that Depp appeared in fan photos looking gaunt and more haggard than usual, sparking concerns and unconfirmed reports that he was seriously ill.
And, yes, things between Depp and Glen appear to be serious, with the dancer reportedly telling friends there has been talk of marriage and of Depp traveling to Russia to meet her parents, according to the Daily Mail.
“He doesn’t like spending time away from her but she understands that he’s got a band and he’s touring,” the Daily Mail’s source said.
Depp performed this past weekend with the Hollywood Vampires at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, where the actor-turned-musician, as is usual, wore an all-black ensemble, accessorized with a bandana and lots of necklaces, while playing guitar alongside Alice Cooper, 71, and Joe Perry, 68.
“When he comes back (to L.A.) they are together all the time,” the friend told the Daily Mail. “They are a puppy-love couple.”
The insider added that Glen is “really sweet and caring. She’s very talented. I’m sure Johnny assists but she’s off doing her own thing.”
And true to the aging male movie star cliché, the friend told the Daily Mail that Depp apparently invites Glen to watch his films with him in his home theater.
“They sit together,” the source said. “He falls asleep a lot in his chair during the movies.”
