In the Hippodrome- where free entertainment was offered- fans of different chariot races teams made rowdy gangs named by the colors of their heroes. The Nika Rebellion occurred due to the government’s reaction to a preceding riot, creating a citywide uproar. The Hippodrome was full of fans who wanted an overthrow of Justinian.
