On August 28th, 1221, the Crusaders surrendered to al-Kamil. However, the Crusaders still had some leverage, as Damietta was well-defended. The Crusaders and Muslims made a deal of peace, in return for surrendering Damietta to the Muslims, the Crusaders could pass unharmed. All Crusader hostages and prisoners that the Muslims held were also to be released, and vice versa.Añadido al timeline:
