This gave the British East India company permission to sell tea to the colonies, but by putting taxes on it. This infuriated the colonists who saw this as a threat to merchants, some boycotted the company, others took stronger actions. They destroyed the tea shipments, and on the night of December 16, they got on the ship and poured about 90,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor.
