Austrian neurologist. His most significant contribution to psychology is the development of psychoanalysis. He began developing this therapeutic approach in the late 19th century, and it became a major force in psychology during the 20th century. Psychoanalysis focuses on the role of the unconscious mind and the influence of unconscious desires and conflicts on human behavior. His structural model of the mind includes: the id, the ego, and the superego. Freud proposed a theory of psychosexual which include oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital. He Introduced the concept of defense mechanisms and Oedipus complex and performed dream analysis and case studies. Freud's ideas had a profound impact on both psychiatry and psychology (Freud & Breuer,1893 ; Benjamin, 2014 ; VanMattson, 2023, Lecture 9).
