American psychologist and educator who was the first person in the United States to receive a Ph.D. in psychology. He earned it from Harvard University under the supervision of William James. In 1883, G. Stanley Hall founded the first psychology laboratory in the United States at Johns Hopkins University. This marked the beginning of experimental psychology in the country and set the stage for the growth of psychology as a scientific discipline. Hall played a crucial role in the establishment of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 1892 and served as its first president. Hall is known for his contributions to developmental and genetic psychology (Vande Kemp, 1992).
