Dutch philosopher of Portuguese Sephardic Jewish descent. He was considered as one of the most important figures in Western philosophy in the 17th century. His philosophical ideas have had indirect influences on the understanding of psychology, particularly in the realms of emotions, mind-body relations, and the nature of human existence. His ideas also contributed in discussion on free will and determinism within psychology (Garrett, 2021).
