-defined terms of US-Cuba relations: unequal relationship, with US dominance over Cuba

-gave USA the right to military intervention whenever it wanted

-elections rigged in favour of candidates supported by USA

-USA dominated Cuban economy (trade + corporations)

-politicians that didn't support US economic policies unable to gain power/removed - only surviving governments were corrupt

-consequences: anti-Americanism, & idea that only force could achieve political + socioeconomic change in Cuba
