During this time period colleges began using computers and machines that were specifically developed for student use at this institutions. Some of these machines consisted of the In 1953 IBM released the IBM 650 Magnetic Drum Calculator and the more smaller computers that were being developed for easy accessibility for school use. Prior to many colleges implementing computer use on there campuses the computer was primarily used for learning was from the military and large research institutions and not the general public. It wasn't until the 1980's that the majority of public schools were starting implement computer use in there buildings and classrooms.
