Having unlocked the ability to travel across the Sol system at formerly unimaginable speeds due to the invention of the Nuclear Pulse Engine, a series of probes were sent to the Nibiru gateway to photograph and study the mysterious structure.

Once the probes reached the gateway, they found a massive black structure made of some unidentifiable metallic material that reflected almost zero light whatsoever. Pressurized "rooms" were detected at the top and bottom of each structure, presumably as some way of controlling it. Unfortunately, the Nibiru probes were unable to access these rooms to see if the controls could be figured out.

Once the ISA had gathered all the data they could from these probes, it was decided that they should be sent through the wormhole at the gateways center, to investigate how the wormhole actually functioned.

Although these probes lost signal with earth soon after traversing the outer edge of the wormhole, they did detect outgoing energy signals pointed at far away stars. Stars as in plural, as each probe seemed to be whisked away to a completely different region of the galaxy than the last...
