The final flight of the Space Shuttle program was STS-135 on July 8, 2011. The end of the use of Space shuttles would cement the end of the slowed period of space development, and large scale and groundbreaking space missions from this point forward would be conducted mostly through development of new types of rocket and corporate partnerships.
