1 ene 1786 año - Trade Deal with France

Descripción:

Recognised that trade between nations could build alliances and prevent costly conflicts. Britain offered low duties on the import of wines and there were reductions by both countries on duties on textiles, pottery and leather goods. The treaty favoured the British who were producing more manufactured goods than France. It was a major reason why, between 1783 and 1792, the value of British trade to Europe almost doubled and a deficit of £2.5 million was turned to a surplus of £2 million. Free trade was important bu the extended period of peace from 1783 to 1793 was far more significant and the changes in manufacturing which allowed British products to be produced more cheaply and in greater volume therefore undercutting its continental rivals. The trade deal was a short-term gain (war with France brought an end to it).

Pitt also increased international trade, quickly going from fighting a war against America to trading with them.
