2 mar 1917 año - The selective service act
Descripción:
Puerto Ricans are granted citizenship in the United States in exchange for their sacrifice in the World War. More armed forces were needed when the U.S voluntarily joined the war on the allied powers side. However before Puerto Ricans were granted citizenship the U.S passed The Selective Service Act. This act required all males between the ages of 18 and 32 to draft in the military but excluded Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican Legislative asked congress to extend the draft to the islands to try to mend their relationship with America which is why more than 80,000 P.R’s fought in WWI.
