In October 2020 the first Asian giant hornet nest was first found in the U.S. Asian giant hornets are an invasive species of wasps from Asia. They can kill entire hives of bumble bees which is a big problem because bumble bees are becoming endangered. Asian giant Hornets are called many different names such as murder hornets and killer wasps and easter cicada killers. Killer wasps females can live up to four weeks and the males can only live up to two weeks. Killer wasp stings are extremely painful but it is less likely for you to get stung because they do not have nest-guarding instincts like other bees. They mainly use it to kill their prey.

If you find a killer wasp you should not approach it or attempt to remove it. Instead, contact your state department of agriculture or state apiarist immediately. If you find a dead murder hornet, contact authorities and collect the specimen so they can study it further.
