When was the format invented?
It was co-Invented by Philips and Sony in 1982
How sound is captured and played back?
Sound is stored as one long spiral track of data on a CD along the track there are flat relative areas and non-reflective bumps, 1 flat reflective area equal 1 in binary while the non-reflective parts equals 0 in Binary. And its read by a laser in a CD drive (when being played) and that laser can Detect if its reflective or not and transmutes them into sound (if you play them via a computer that is.)
And when making any changes if it’s a rewritable cd then the CD-R will used a writing laser to change the transparency of the dye layer on the CD
Did it effect other formats?
It was kind of cheap and transportable, but most off all it was digital and give a much better sound than those before it so, it semi quickly began to take over as the top way to listening to music (until it was taken over by others)
How did impact consumers?
Its fair to say that a lot of consumers when mad over the fact that it was the first digital way to listen to music and quickly sold the record to get the same record but ‘remastered’ on CD.
