The Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement in America. Except instead of fighting against discrimination of African-Americans, they fought against discrimination of Catholics in Northern Ireland. Catholics held 35% of NI's population however only had 6% of local council seats. Also, some workplaces would refuse to hire Catholics.
