Democritus is credited with the first development of the Atomic Theory of the Universe. His theory stated that everything is composed of "atoms", that between atoms was empty space, that atoms are indestructible, and that there is an infinite amount of atoms. Democritus' model was simply a round sphere. It had no protons, or electrons or a nucleus.
