1 ene 1938 año - Barbara Howard won silver medal for Canada

Descripción:

Barbara Howard broke the British Empire record for the 100-yard dash and qualified to go to the British Empire Games in Sydney, Australia, and represent Canada. There, she won silver and bronze medals as part of the 440-yard and 660-yard relay teams. She accomplished this at 17 years old in 1938. She was the first Black woman athlete representing Canada at an international competition. She also later became the first racialized person to be hired by the Vancouver School Board. These are all stepping stones for more rights for Black people in Canada as they start to gain recognition and represent Canada across the world.
