Descripción:
The Battle of Shiloh was fought on April 6, 1862, in Hardin County Tennessee. The Union was led by General Ulysses S. Grant and the Confederacy was led by General Albert Sidney Johnston. The Union outnumbered the Confederacy greatly with 65,085 forces engaged, while the opposing side had 44,968 forces engaged. Before the battle, the Confederate troops were retreating from battles over Fort Henry and Fort Donelson. Grant and his army were waiting by the Tennessee River as the Confederates came over the horizon. Grant was told not to open fire on the Confederate troops until he was backed up by Major General Don Carlos Buell’s troops. General Johnston uses this to his advantage and April 3, he rains heavy fire on Grant’s men. The battle was fought for over four days, and on April 7th, Grant leads his final attack. The Union wins this battle, suffering 13,047 casualties. The Confederacy suffered 10,669 casualties including Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston who died from loss of blood. The Confederacy was still heavily outnumbered after this battle. https://www.nps.gov/places/death-of-albert-sidney-johnston-tour-stop-17.htm#:~:text=At%20the%20time%20General%20Johnston,unused%20tourniquet%20in%20his%20pocket. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/civil-war/battles/shiloh
