The Persian gulf war was an international conflict triggered by Iraq invading Kuwait. Iraq's leader Saddam Hussein ordered an invasion and occupation of Kuwait with the aim to capture the nation's large oil reserves. Doing this would cancel the large debt that the Iraqi government had with oil in Kuwait. In response to this, the UN passed resolution 661 which imposed a ban on all trade with Iraq and called on UN countries to protect the assets of Kuwait. One day after this US troops were sent to Saudi Arabia. On August 10th, 12 of the 21 members of the Arab League condemned Iraq's Invasion of Kuwait. When they started fighting the Iraqi army was outclassed by the forces who opposed them. The United States and Britain were provided with cutting-edge technology like the F-117A nighthawk. The terms of peace were that Iraq recognizes Kuwait's sovereignty and that Iraq disinvests itself from weapons of mass destruction.
