The Denmark Vesey Slave Revolt was a failed slave revolt planned to kill slaveholders in Charleston, South Carolina and liberate the slaves being held. Before the uprising could occur, the leader, Denmark Vesey, and a few of his supposed followers were arrested.

Cause: Planning of a revolt in Charleston, SC for June of 1822.

Effect: Crushed under powers of owners and the government, ruling that Vessy was convicted of inciting a revolt. Denmark Vessy was hung July 2nd, 1822.
