November 22, 1963, was a very sad day for almost all of America. This was the day JFK was assassinated. He was riding in an open car when he was shot twice by Lee Harvey Oswald. He was in Dallas, Texas when this happened. Later that day, he died in a nearby hospital. Lee Harvey Oswald was a 24-year-old ex-Marine who decided to become a Communist because of when he lived in the Soviet Union. A little while later, he, too, was shot on live television. Jack Ruby, the guy who shot Oswald, was horrified that anybody would kill the beloved president and killed Oswald, while he was still handcuffed. All over America, people were heartbroken. Only two hours after he was shot, however, a new president was sworn in. Lyndon B. Johnson, JFK's vice president was now expected to take on all the nuclear problems from JFK's presidency. JFK wanted to peacefully solve all of the nuclear problems and was starting to discuss them with British and Soviet leaders before he was shot.
