24 jul 1866 año - Tennessee Becomes the First State Readmitted Into the Union
Descripción:
On July 24, 1866, Tennessee became the first state to be readmitted into the Union. This state was also one of the last states to secede from the Union, but reconstruction was still evident in this event. There were certain conditions that states had to be under for them to rejoin the Union. One was the state had to eliminate slavery, and the other was the adoption of the 14th Amendment. Tennessee’s state legislature had quickly met these requirements, and the state rejoined the Union in late July. While this was a big step in the direction of rebuilding the Union, it would take another two years for Arkansas to join the Union on June 22nd, 1868. Arkansas was only the second state to rejoin. Finally, in July of 1870, Georgia became the last state to rejoin the Union. While the process took four years, the Union was rebuilt, and the United States of America is still around.
