This affair is named after the White House intern with whom President Clinton had a sexual relationship, and then lied about it to a federal grand jury; ultimately led to his impeachment in December 1998. The Senate failed to convict him (on the basis that his actions did not entail “high crimes and misdemeanors” specified in the US Constitution as a condition for impeachment) and he remained in office.
