with being lord protectorate and having failed parilment Cronwell needs to know how to fund the country and himself for being in charge so what cromwell does is that he sell of old crown land to the merchant classes the high classes in society within this time and Cronwell and England get a lot of money from his and the king used to own a lot of lands especially down south in Cornwall also cronwell would use taxes aswell to support his parilment and rule over england such as land taxes and other methods

The government also took steps to regulate trade, such as the Navigation Acts, which were designed to promote English shipping and commerce.
