2 mar 1945 año - Mendez v. Westminster
Descripción:
In Orange County, CA, 9-year-old Sylvia Mendez was rejected from all-white schools. When sent to local schools, Mendez was sent back home and told to go to a separate facility meant for Mexicans. This case was pivotal to school segregation, discussing discrimination based on culture, and supposed “language deficiency”. The court decided that the segregation of Mexican-American children was unconstitutional. This was later a critical case used in the Brown v. Board of Education case during the Civil Rights Movement.
