The Neighborhood House was established in 1923 by the College Woman’s Club. The settlement house movement had moved away from concern with reform issues and now concentrated almost exclusively on public health, education, and cultural and social activities. The Neighborhood’s house goals were to: understand its Mexican Neighbors, interpret the needs of the community, perform the intimate and friendly service of a good neighbor, and direct needed educational and recreational work. They provided summer school classes, pre-natal clinics, and dances and comunnity sings.
