In 1973, the Senate Select Committee began investigating the Watergate scandal. During the hearings, the White House attorney testified that Nixon had been involved in the cover-up and had a taping system that had recorded every conversation Nixon had had with someone in the Oval Office. This would lead to the demand of the tapes which would lead to his own resigning.
