Descripción:
In April of 1969, the organization ALAS, Alianza Latino-Americana para el Adelanto Social, had over 100 of Chicago’s Pilsen/ Eighteenth Street residents gather to discuss issues impacting the Latino population. They addressed the lack of Latin resources in the city’s high school and police violence targeting brown men. The meeting signified the growing Latino population in the neighborhood, which had grown to 55% according to the census, and demonstrated that Latinos were influencing the social fabric of their cities.
