The Government of Canada introduces a Multiculturalism Policy. Its aim is to recognize the diversity of cultures in Canada and it is later reinforced by the Multiculturalism Act. The Act protects the rights of ethnic minorities in Canada. As multiculturalism and diversity are two of the cornerstones of Canadian identity, this act gives Canadians today a sense of pride as the first nation to implement such an act officially. It also allows for the feeling of acceptance in the minorities in Canada and gives incentive for immigrants to live there.
