The local Tainos help the Spanish to save the timber from the shipwreck and build a small settlement. As Columbus is left only with the smallet ship (La Nina), he cannot fit all of the crew on the ship to sail back.

They name the new settlement La Navidad and leave 39 men, including a doctor and an interpreter. The rest leave on the Nina and return to Spain.
