Sit-Ins were performed when some groups of whites and blacks sat down in store counters where only whites were allowed too. This movement caused tensions among both race groups. When they were denied service they continued to sit there until they were served. At first many groups of blacks received verbal and physical abuse from whites, but later stores would integrate these counters.
