Louis XVI tried to escape France to avoid having to approve the Civil Constitution of the Clergy. Not long after their attempted escape of the French Revolution, the king and queen were captured, and became prisoners of Parisian mobs. This flight by the king was a turning point in the French Revolution because it showed that Louis XVI's reign was no longer effective, and that he could not be held trustworthy or responsible for the people of France.
