Like she did with Dominic, Gerta sees her dad on the west side of the Wall. He waves and then does a dance they used to do when he was home, but instead of acting like he has a rake he acts like he uses a shovel. This confuses Gerta but leads her to believe that he wants her to dig a tunnel to the west.
