It was the fateful afternoon of January 17, 2023, exactly when Lewis wanted to begin the venture, and exactly when Nieuwrossese defenses were down. Gathered in the borderlands where they had been attacked before, the Winter Corps slowly approached the resonantial boundary of Nieuwross, with the tanks and armored vehicles who had just participated in Hailstorm 2 up first. They entered Nieuwrossese territory at 4:30 PM in a remote and secluded frontier region where they had previously been briefly a week earlier when they destroyed their artillery, but now, they were establishing a firmer presence. While enemy troops went to confront the incursion, they were no match for the Winter Corps, blasting and thundering their way through defensive formations.

Their momentum carried them a long way forward, further than was expected, and to Lewis, it was going smoothly. It seemed as if at that point they could just keep driving and eventually they would reach the Nieuwrossese capital. From the looks of it, the probability of Nieuwross being the Entrity had skyrocketed, and it stayed this way throughout the clash until the Winter Corps troops ran into a tight defense line running along the snowy shores of a frozen lake. These defenders were not in fact stranded with their backs to the water, because frankly, there was no water, it was completely frozen, perhaps frozen enough to support the Winter Corps’s tanks, who could then use their spiked tracks to crawl across it. Not sure if it was possible, but still willing to take the gamble, Lewis ordered the tanks to divert from their paths and to drive onto the lake in a flanking maneuver, hopefully attacking the defense line from behind and taking them by surprise.

Infantry that had made contact with the Nieuwrossese defense line along the lakeshore were beginning to engage with them, but quickly found themselves pinned down in the deep snow and forest cover. The defenders looked to be some of the best units deployed in the area, and so even the well-trained Winter Corps found it difficult to even land a shot on any one of them. However, they did not have to hold out for very long, because soon enough, the tanks rolled in from behind, blasting the defense line away. It was an extremely strange sight to see an armored vehicle just sitting there atop a lake, even if it was frozen, but because of this, it was a symbol of Imperial resilience. The Winter Corps then dashed across the lake, chasing down the remaining Nieuwrossese defenders into the massive mountain range that started on its opposite side. General Lewis opted to stop the advance at the base of its foothills. There, reinforcements would arrive and prepare their next move against Nieuwross, whatever that would be. For now, the Battle of the Frontier had been won.
