Primary objectives: diagnosis rate per 1000 person-years
Results:
1. Cytosponge + endoscopy diagnosed
140/6434 BE cases while endoscopy alone
diagnosed 13/6388 BE cases. The rate ratio
adjusted for cluster randomisation is 10.6.
2. 221/1654 participants tested positive for
TFF3 after Cytosponge test, they underwent
endoscopy. 131/221 of them were diagnosed
with BE or cancer.
Conclusion: Cytosponge detect 10x BE cases
than the usual GP route
Descripción:
Study Design: multi-centre, pragmatic, randomized controlled trial in 109 socio demographically diverse general practice clinics in England. Randomisation at GP level and at participant level.
Participants: 13,222 participants
Methods: Patient receive either endoscopy + standard care or Cytosponge-TFF3 procedure + endoscopy + standard care
Data collection time: March 20, 2017 to March 21, 2019.
Limitations:
1. Around 10% participants had a low-confidence result even after a repeat test.
2. There are slightly more women than men who underwent Cytosponge-TFF3 test, this is not representative of true men to women ratio for this cancer.
3. Quality of endoscopies varies across 24 hospitals
