The Big Muff Fuzzbox pedal was manufactured in 1969 by Electro Harmonix and Sovtek. Although it was made primarily for use with guitarists, it's also very popular with bassists due to its low-frequency response. It gave the guitar a very muffled and fuzzy sound, very similar to a sawtooth sound wave.
