The 13th Amendment-Abolition of Slavery was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865. It was ratified on December 6, 1865. The 13th amendment abolished slavery by stating “neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment of a crime…. shall exist within the United States.” The 13th Amendment industrialized urban onest was passed at the end of the Civil War before the southern states were restored to the Union. President Abraham Lincoln took an active role in to ensure its passage through Congress.
