1 sept 1764 año - Sugar Act enacted
Descripción:
The Sugar Act was the first official tax used in the colonies to make money. It lowered the tax of sugar, rum, and molasses from the previous Molasses Act. But, unlike the Molasses Act, the Sugar Act was actually enforced. The act also had three rules which made it harder to smuggle. Firstly, traders needed a cargo list, a list containing all of the items in their boat. The act also said that a boat could be searched anytime for no actual reason. Lastly, if a person was caught smuggling, their case would be decided by a judge instead of a jury. Colonial boycotts started in New York and spread to other colonies. The slogan, "No Taxation Without Representation" began circulating throughout the colonies.
