Formed in 1968 in London this group was essential in the growth and prowess of Rock N Roll. They were initially going to be called the New Yardbirds, an iconic group in the 60s that many legendary guitarists, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, played for. Jimmy was the guitar player for this group as well.
They had a heavy guitar sound, which made them progenitors of hard rock and heavy metal, and used a Leslie speaker which is usually used for the organ for a guitar solo in "Good Times, Bad Times."
Their first album to top the American Chart was Led Zeppelin 2, but during their carreer they played a lot of covers and made songs similar to other artists that landed them in some legal trouble. "Whole Lotta Love" was thought to be extremely similar to a Muddy Waters song.
The group was active from the 70s to 1980.
