20 feb 1962 año - Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson

Descripción:

Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson were 3 NASA mathematicians that were relatively unknown but instrumental in sending astronaut John Glenn successfully into space, and, by extension, in the United States winning the Space Race. Dorothy would go on to become NASA's first African American supervisor, Mary became NASA's first Black female engineer, and Katherine worked on the Apollo 11 and Space Shuttle missions— she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015. Their contributions to science became more widely known in 2016 with the release of the movie "Hidden Figures," loosely based on their story, which highlighted how they paved the way for future generations of Black women at NASA (Eve).
