In November 2010, American PR firm Brown Lloyd James signed a USD 5,000 per month contract with the presidency to coordinate a profile on Asma Al-Assad in Vogue.

The piece was published in the March 2011 edition to heavy criticism, coinciding with the Al-Assad crackdown on protesters.

The account was handled by Mike Holtzman, who liaised with former Brown Lloyd James intern, Sheherazad Jaafari — daughter of Syria’s ambassador to the UN and press aide to Al-Assad.
