6 ene 2000 año - 2000: Berezovsky & Litvinenko both flee to the UK

Descripción:

Boris Berezovsky was a Russian oligarch who had been close to Yeltsin in the nineties. He made his money first in cars before buying a broadcaster, ORT, which he reportedly used to help a wildly unpopular Yeltsin get re-elected in 1996. Though initially a supporter of Vladimir Putin, he later became an outspoken critic. He sought exile in the UK in 2000 and was granted asylum in 2003. He funded the International Foundation for Civil Liberties to front his fight against Putin.

Alexander Litvinenko was a former Russian spy and dissident who fled to the UK in 2000. Two years earlier, he had publicly accused the Russian government of ordering Berezovsky’s assassination. He wrote two books critical of Putin’s security state. He also worked as a consultant for the UK on Russia’s organised crime.
