Dakota troops attack Fort Ridgely twice, on the 20th and 22nd. The fort had been a training base for Civil War soldiers butis suddenly one of the few military forts west of the Mississippi river to withstand an attack. Fort Ridgely’s 280 soldiers and civilians hold out until the U.S. army puts out the siege.
