After burning Vince's Fort, Cols Chaney and Williams turned toward their headaquarters on the Edisto River. Along the Old Augusta Road, they stopped at the home of Mr. Collins, an elder man who was peaceful and remained neutral throughout the war. Mr Collins was murdered for unknown reasons.
