Col Marion sent Maj. John James to scout ahead. In a night attack, James subsequently waylaid British Maj Wemyss stragglers and captured 30 of the enemy, then beat a hasty retreat. The Patriots lost double the number of troops as the British. The exact location of the skirmish is unknown, the point marks the town of Kingtree Historic District.
