Following the battle at McDowell's camp Capt Edward Hampton pursued the Loyalist force of Capt Dunlap. After a two hour ride, they surprised the Loyalist confusing them and a running battle occurred until the Loyalist reached Prince's Fort. Eight Loyalist were killed in the first volley and thirteen total were killed and one captured. One Patriot was captured and when the British learned McDowell had 400 men, they abandoned Prince's Fort.
